As of late, more and more people have resorted to making their own things, decoration, skin care, even furniture. Other than cutting costs, one of the main reasons why people have started doing this is so that they can monitor what is going into the products they use.
This is more true and common for skin care and beauty items. With companies adding a million different chemicals to the products people are having different skin issues because they are putting the mixtures on their face and body. Homemade treatments are now the new norms.
Green tea is an ingredient people love to rave about, and they have a good reason for doing so. Here you will get a few detailed recipes of a green tea moisturizer you can make at home all by yourself.
Coconut And Green Tea Moisturizer
For this recipe, all you are going to need are 2 tablespoons of loose green tea. In case you don’t have loose tea leaves, all you have to do is tear up two tea bags of green tea. The next item is a cup of coconut oil. That’s it, just these two items and you have yourself a great moisturizer.
Step 1: Put It On Heat
Now, in order to make the two ingredients come together to actually make the product is actually very simple. You have to start by putting a pot on the stove with water. Now, on top of the pot, you will place a glass bowl. Make sure the glass is not thin or fragile, as it might break when the heat increases.
Make sure the pot is on medium heat and not high because you do not want to put too much heat on the oil. Then when you see the bowl has started to heat up, add the coconut oil in.
Let the oil melt entirely before adding in the green tea leaves. If you live in a hotter climate then you can add the coconut oil and the green tea in together, as the oil doesn’t need to be melted.
Stir the leaves in well with the oil and make sure it is properly distributed across the whole thing. Cover the bowl with a lid and let it simmer in low heat for about an hour.
You do not want to boil it, so make sure that it stays on low heat. Once the green tea has completely mixed with the coconut oil take it off the heat.
Step 2: Let It Cool
At this point, you will want to take a cheesecloth to strain the green tea leaves out of the oil. A normal strainer won’t do as the tea is too fine and might remain in the mixture. Once you’re done, just let it rest for a while until it cools down and goes back to its solid form.
However, in hotter climate its more difficult to bring the coconut oil back to its solid form, so you can just pop it in the refrigerator until it does. When it finally reaches your desired form, you are going to whip it, otherwise, it won’t have a cream like texture.
Step 3: Whip It Up
So, for the whipping process, you can do it with a whipping machine as well as your hands. If you decide to use a machine it would be wise for you to choose the slowest speed setting because more speed will increase the temperature of the mixture and the oil might start melting.
However, you could opt for using your hands and a whisk to do the job too, but this might be a bit tough on your hands and prove to be a bit of a workout.
Once the mixture has become creamy you can stop whisking and all that’s left for you to do is to put the cream in a container and you are good to go. Just keep in mind to keep the container away from heat as the oil inside will want to melt.
Moisturizer For The Oily Skin People
Using coconut oil as a moisturizer for people with oily skin is just unimaginable. It would weigh their skin down and as to make them look like they just washed their face with oil. So, for them, this coconut oil and green tea moisturizer will not do.
Rather another recipe will have to be followed, which will not only moisturize their skin but also calm it. And the best option would be to use aloe vera with green tea.
Aloe Vera Gel And Green Tea Moisturizer
The things you will be needing to make this moisturizer are aloe vera gel, green tea, a little bit of beeswax and grapeseed oil. All the items are easily found at local grocery stores, so it should not be hard to make at all.
Step 1: Extract The Gel
For this recipe, you will have to get an aloe vera leaf and extract the gel from the leaf. For that, all you have to do is cut off an inch from the very bottom of the leaf and leave it on top of a paper in a 45-degree angle. Let it sit like this while the yellow substance fully comes out.
It is important to get it out as many might actually be allergic to it. It might cause a breakout of rashes on your skin too.
Now, once you’re sure that all of the sticky yellow substance is out, trim the leaf on all sides, until there is no green on the gel. Then you can just dunk the inside in a blender and there you have your gel.
Step 2: On The Heat
Just like before you will have to put a double boiler of the stove, the double boiler means putting a bowl on top of a pot of water, the cooking or melting is done on the glass bowl. Now, on the double boiler, you are going to add in the grapeseed oil and the grated beeswax.
You have to melt the beeswax completely and make sure that it mixes well with the grapeseed oil. Once they have both melted and combined together, take it off the heat. There is no need to simmer it any longer. Then just let it sit and cool completely before you can mix anything else to it.
Then you will boil about half a cup of water and add green tea to it and let the tea infuse with the water completely. It should not take more than 5 minutes. Then just strain out the tea from the water using the cheesecloth. Let the green tea cool for a while.
Step 3: Mixing It All Together
Now plug in a blender and blend the oil in it. After that, you will have to slowly add in the aloe vera gel and the green tea infused water. Add them a little bit at a time one after the other. Keep doing so until you see that your mixture has reached a creamy and thick consistency.
If you want you can add a few drops of essential oil to your cream for a better fragrance but this step is not at all important if you don’t care for the smell. And finally, you just have to put the moisturizer into a container and it is ready for use.
You will be absolutely surprised how amazing your skin is going to feel after a few days of usage.
